Claus Beneking was Managing Director of Reiner Lemoine Institute between 2014 and 2016.
He graduated from RWTH Aachen with a PhD degree in physics. Following his initial occupation in the industry sector of light technology at Philips research and development laboratories in Aachen, Germany and Eindhoven, Netherlands he worked as a researcher and manager in the area of renewable energy technologies since 1991. After assuming scientist positions at Forschungszentrum Jülich as well as RWTH Aachen in the field of silicon solar cell technology he proceeded onto management positions in the year of 2000, and a year later as a member of the board of directors at ersol Solar Energy AG in Erfurt, building it up to be a notable listed company. After its acquisition by Robert Bosch GmbH in 20008, Dr. Beneking worked in various institutions, assuming a teaching position at TU Ilmenau and consulting at Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE in Freiburg concerning economic topics, especially energy storage technologies for 100% renewable energy scenarios. In 2014 he became Managing Director at Reiner Lemoine Institut.
