Mario Stalpes

B.Eng. Energy Technology - Regenerative and Efficient Energy Systems (Trier University of Applied Sciences)

Former student assistant

Info

Mario Stalpes worked from December 2019 until the end of May 2020 in the Research Unit Off-Grid Systems at RLI as a student assistant as part of his master thesis. He analysed the effects of renewable energy on the grid stability of island grids. Most of the islands worldwide have a considerable potential of renewable energy sources, but with few exceptions they are still supplied by cost-intensive diesel generators. Renewable energy offers the potential not only to make such energy systems more environmentally and climate-friendly, but also to reduce energy costs and dependence on fossil fuels.

Mario was enrolled in the master's program Energy Management at the Trier University of Applied Sciences. During his studies, Mario was able to gain valuable practical experience in various areas of energy technology. Among other things, he carried out an energy audit in an industrial company and thus contributed to a more efficient and climate-friendly energy supply. He also gained initial experience in the off-grid sector through a potential analysis for solar-powered irrigation systems in the Philippines.
