24. April 2023 | The Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI) is a partner and founding member of the new Academic Council of Island Innovation. The organization aims to contribute to fostering innovation and sustainable change in island communities worldwide. The new body will meet for the first time on April 25.

One of the main goals of the Academic Council is to bring a stronger academic focus to island communities. This will be implemented by using social, economic and cultural realities of the islands as context for research in these areas.

As part of the network, RLI scholars can publish and disseminate results of their research on island innovation to various stakeholders such as researchers, NGOs, and policy makers. They can also submit proposals for panel discussions, posters or presentations.

Important exchange for research area Off-Grid Systems

Membership on the Island Innovation Academic Council is particularly valuable for the Off-Grid Systems research unit at RLI. “We hope that the collaboration will further disseminate our research results in the field of energy supply for islands. Especially the exchange with and feedback from local stakeholders is important for us to develop methods and tools that enable sustainable energy supply or transport systems on islands”, says Philipp Blechinger, head of the Off-Grid Systems research unit at RLI.
