Info

Marc Juanpera Gallel was a PhD student at the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). In his dissertation he developed a multicriteria methodology for analyzing different alternatives of energy system designs to electrify rural communities under a fuzzy environment. Within this framework, he has joined the RLI Research Unit Off-Grid Systems from September 2019 to February 2020. His main work at RLI was the development of a multicriteria analysis to be added as a postprocess procedure to the simulation and optimization tool developed by RLI researcher Martha Hoffmann. With this analysis, the best electrification design scenario was selected taking into account economic, technical, social, environmental and institutional criteria.

Marc’s formation background includes a Master’s degree and a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering at UPC. During this overall formation, he acquired knowledges of mechanical, electrical, electronical and automatic engineering, among others. In his final master’s thesis, he developed a methodology for modeling uncertainty in experts’ surveys in the framework of multicriteria analysis for rural electrification designs.

Besides his work, he has joined several volunteering projects aimed to educational and community assistance purposes during summer vacations in South-Africa, Romania and Nepal.
