In the project Potential Study with Implementation Concept for the Regional Hydrogen Economy Prignitz-Oberhavel, scientists of the RLI are preparing a potential study together with the project partners of the consulting company Rebel and the Planning Community Prignitz-Oberhavel. The project’s aim is to identify regional opportunities for the production, distribution and use of green hydrogen. The study will include barriers and opportunities and proposes concrete projects for the development of a hydrogen economy.

Hydrogen for a sustainable regional energy economy

For the potential study, the RLI experts conduct workshops with regional key players, such as public transport providers and local representatives of industry and business. This enables a precise representation of the study area, on the basis of which realistic and applicable results are developed. The scientists examine specifically the given economic and social structures and determine how greenhouse gases can be reduced through the use of hydrogen in the building, industry and transport sectors. In addition, existing funding structures will be analyzed. The results will be combined into three concrete project options. These are intended to support the development of a regional green hydrogen economy for the Prignitz-Oberhavel planning region in Brandenburg.

Project period: March - June 2022

The RLI assumes the following tasks:

  • Representation of the study area and analysis of energy consumption and production
  • Actor and location analysis
  • Potential analysis of green hydrogen production volumes
  • Determination of potential greenhouse gas reductions in the sectors industry, mobility and buildings
  • Project planning of three potential projects in the planning region
  • Implementation of two digital stakeholder workshops
