April 26. – 28. | Palma de Mallorca

Philipp Blechinger, head of the Off-Grid Systems research unit at RLI and Clara Neyrand researcher in the same unit will give presentations at the 4th International Conference on Solar Technologies and Hybrid Mini-Grids to Improve Energy Access. The conference will be held April 26 – 28 at the Universitat de les Illes Balears in Palma de Mallorca.

Clara will give a presentation on “The Role of Renewable Energy Off-Grid Systems in Global Electrification Scenarios and for Climate Action” on 26.4. (15:30, Session 1). RLI has developed realistic scenarios for Ethiopia, Nigeria and Madagascar for the deployment of off-grid renewable energy solutions that mitigate climate change and are more cost-effective than grid expansion. The results are available in an online tool.

Philipp’s talk will take place on 27.4. He will speak on the topic “Electricity supply and satisfaction of energy service needs among rural and peri-urban households and small firms in Nigeria” (12:30, Session 4c) including findings from the PeopleSun project.

This event is intended for experts from industry, academia, and development institutions working in the field of decentralized energy access and local development. Contributions to the conference will provide an overview of the state of the art in various technology areas and will include practical technical, social and environmental perspectives as well as business and management aspects.

Decentralized renewable energy technologies can help provide access to modern energy services for more than one billion people in rural areas worldwide. This is a prerequisite for, for example, improving the living conditions of households in these regions, increasing the productivity of micro and small enterprises, or improving the services of public institutions.
