Neighborhoods in a climate-neutral electricity system (Gering et al. 2023)

M. Gering, K. Helfenbein, E. Kötter, B. Schachler, A Koch, S. Schmelcher, T. Sternkopf

The heating transition is one of the central tasks within the changeover to a climate-neutral energy system. Heat supply concepts at district level use synergies between the individual consumers compared to the individual building level. As a result, components can be designed smaller and the efficiency advantages of large systems can be utilized.

This brief report shows the effects of various heat pump-based heat supply concepts on the grid expansion requirements in common distribution grid types. The grid expansion costs represent a component of a holistic view of a climate-neutral heat supply for neighborhoods and should be taken into account in the planning.
