Sector analysis for electric mobility on Mauritius: Business cases for pilot projects

Project description

In this project, RLI analyzes potential business models for e-mobility in Mauritius. This is done on behalf of the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

As a first step, RLI will provide an overview of worldwide business models for e-mobility and solar-powered charging. In addition, the framework conditions for e-mobility in Mauritius will be summarized. Feasibility studies will then be prepared for six companies in Mauritius.

For these feasibility studies, various factors will be considered. Firstly, the vehicle fleets are optimized in a simulation, i.e. it is ascertained, for example, which vehicles are available, which distances they cover, which investments are necessary, and how they are financially profitable. Various design options for the local energy system are also being considered: How is the energy system currently designed and how can or must it be modified in the future to make it suitable for the electrification of vehicles? These and similar questions will be answered in the study.

A special feature of the planned vehicle electrification is that the energy to charge the vehicles will be generated exclusively by photovoltaic systems and thus by renewable energy.

The results of the study will then be presented in a workshop with participants from the six companies and Business Mauritius.

Project duration: March 2019 – June 2021
