ASEP_Phil – Technical Assistance for Access to Sustainable Energy in the Philippines

Even though the situation has improved recently, not all of the more than one hundred million inhabitants of the Philippines have access to electricity. As the Philippines have great potential for wind and solar power, due to their geographic location, renewable energies should be used to connect households to the grid. Decentralized minigrids and solar home systems provide suitable solutions in this context.

In this project, RLI cooperates with GIZ International Services and ICF International to support the Philippine Department of Energy (DoE). Funding is provided by the European Union.

We provide technical assistance to reach the following goals:

• provide access to electricity for 90 percent of households,
• strengthen involved institutions in their electrification project management functions,
• implement measures to increase energy efficiency.

Project period 30.04.2016 – 30.09.2019

RLI assumes the following tasks in this project:

• Develop and institutionalize rural electrification tools
• Support electrification strategies and policies
• Promote hybridization of island energy systems
