Delegation from Pakistan visits the Reiner Lemoine Institute

December 06, 2023 | A delegation from Pakistan visited the Reiner Lemoine Institute in November. The visit of the Pakistani energy and grid planning experts took place as part of the GIZ Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Project (REEE II). The aim of the project is to drive forward the energy transition in Pakistan and introduce a comprehensive market strategy. In the course of their stay, the project partners were able to discuss steps towards the energy transition.

During the visit, RLI scientists and the Pakistani delegation discussed the challenges involved in scaling up solar and wind power plants in Pakistan. A particular focus was placed on the safe integration of renewable energies and high-quality implementation planning. The RLI provided valuable support in adapting the grid management processes to the growing share of renewable energies and promoting the capacity for grid-connected solar photovoltaics. Access to electricity for all people in Pakistan can only be achieved with new decentralized approaches that also benefit communities far from the grid. The project focuses on the introduction of advanced tools to optimize the operation and planning of electricity grids.

In addition to the numerous workshops and discussion rounds, the program also included excursions. Together, the participants visited Stromnetz Berlin GmbH, the village of Feldheim, known for its renewable energy strategy, and the public utility company in Fürstenwalde, Brandenburg, E.DIS AG.
