Open Source in Energy Access Symposium

11. June 2025, Nairobi

Philipp Blechinger, Head of the Off-Grid Systems Research Unit at RLI, will represent RLI at the Open Source in Energy Access Symposium (OSEAS) in Nairobi, Kenya.
Philipp will share his expertise in two formats:

In the panel “The role of academia”, Philipp will talk about the role of academia in the dissemination and development of open source solutions in the energy sector.
In the panel “OSEAS Big 5 – Open source developers and open source users” Philipp will present two RLI open source tools:

Offgridplanner helps to plan and optimize the power supply in Nigeria. The tool was developed as part of the RLI project PeopleSuN.
The community mini-grid tool helps representatives of non-electrified communities in Nigeria to create mini-grid implementation plans. The tool enables the modeling of electricity demand, the design of suitable mini-grid systems and the performance of financial analyses to create a comprehensive stakeholder engagement document. It was developed in the project “Communities of Practice as Drivers of a Bottom-up Energy Transition in Nigeria”.
