Open Source in Energy Access Symposium
11. June 2025, Nairobi
Philipp Blechinger, Head of the Off-Grid Systems Research Unit at RLI, will represent RLI at the Open Source in Energy Access Symposium (OSEAS) in Nairobi, Kenya.
Philipp will share his expertise in two formats:
- In the panel “The role of academia”, Philipp will talk about the role of academia in the dissemination and development of open source solutions in the energy sector.
- In the panel “OSEAS Big 5 – Open source developers and open source users” Philipp will present two RLI open source tools:
- Offgridplanner helps to plan and optimize the power supply in Nigeria. The tool was developed as part of the RLI project PeopleSuN.
- The community mini-grid tool helps representatives of non-electrified communities in Nigeria to create mini-grid implementation plans. The tool enables the modeling of electricity demand, the design of suitable mini-grid systems and the performance of financial analyses to create a comprehensive stakeholder engagement document. It was developed in the project “Communities of Practice as Drivers of a Bottom-up Energy Transition in Nigeria”.
