Detection of off-grid regions and potential options of power supply along the example of Kenya

Project description

Global data sets about population distribution and satellite imagery of light at night allow to estimate where non-electrified population lives and distinguish the optimum electrification strategy for each location. Possible options are grid extension, mini-grids and small standalone solutions.

Project duration 01.09.2015 – 31.11.2015

Tasks

Within this project GIS-based tools are developed to estimate the size of population in on- and off-grid regions of Kenya. Based on these findings different electrification strategies are developed for each location.
