Geo-spatial Assessment of Mini-Grid Potentials in Nigeria
Project description
This project dealt with the identification of potential locations in Nigeria that are suitable for electrification with mini grids. RLI together with the project partner INTERGATION GmbH created a data basis consisting of already available and new data. Data was used from satellite images, freely available spatial data sets and OpenStreetMap to obtain information about the population structure and the electrification prerequisites. Subsequently, the data has been provided with attributes, which means that data on the location, the socio-economic characteristics of the locations and already existing power infrastructure was added to the geodata as additional information.
The information gathered was used to prioritize the sites and identify the sites which, due to their characteristics, are best suited for electrification using mini grids.
Project duration: August 2018 – January 2019
