Three questions for: Kyrgyz Guest Researcher Aizhamal Duishonbekova at RLI

December 4, 2024 | Guest researcher Aizhamal Duishonbekova from Kyrgyzstan is visiting the Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI) during November and December. She is working together with scientists from the Off-Grid Systems Research Unit as part of the project “Renewable Energy Transition Pathways for Kyrgyzstan.”

We asked Aizhamal three questions about her time at RLI.

What is your first impression of the Reiner Lemoine Institute?

Aizhamal: I have a very positive impression of the Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI). On my first day, I was introduced to the mission, goals, and values of the institute, and I was happy to find that many of them align with my personal values. I also appreciate being surrounded by bright colleagues who are friendly and have helped me adapt to the culture through fun activities.

What are you working on during your stay at the RLI?

Aizhamal: During my stay at RLI, I am working on the project “Renewable Energy Transition Pathways for Kyrgyzstan” within the Off-Grid Research Unit. My main tasks involve conducting data research and developing an energy model for Kyrgyzstan using PyPSA and PyPSA Earth.

What are your goals for your time at RLI?

Aizhamal: I believe the project will contribute to policymaking and the renewable energy transition in my home country. The knowledge and experience I gain at RLI will be valuable for my career, and the cultural exchange will enrich my perspective in many ways that go beyond my professional life.
