eGon-data
eGon-data – Data pipeline to create scenarios for the electricity, heat, mobility and gas sector for entire Germany.
How does eGon-data help?
The eGon-data tool was developed by RLI scientists and generates a temporally and spatially high-resolution data basis of a sector-coupled energy system for various future scenarios.
Who is the tool suitable for?
eGon-data is aimed at practitioners from grid operations and municipal utilities, as well as scientists interested in modelling, analyzing and optimizing energy systems. Thanks to the detailed grid models and the comprehensive database for future generation, consumption and flexibility at all grid levels, the possible applications are diverse.
How does eGon-data work?
It is a data pipeline based on the Apache Airflow workflow management system, which is used to create a data pool for the electricity, heating, mobility and gas sectors right through to the end consumer for the whole of Germany. It accesses numerous open online resources and generates a results database that can be used as input data for further studies.
What examples of use are there?
eGon-data was developed in the eGo^n project, where it was used to optimize grid and storage expansion at all grid levels.
The paper “Influence of flexibility options on the German transmission grid — A sector-coupled mid-term scenario“ describes the medium-term scenario for the year 2035 based on the data.
Another use case is the determination of free grid capacities in the German transmission and distribution grids, which is the subject of various projects.
How can eGon-data be used?
The program code is written in the Python programming language and is freely available on the Github online service (AGPL 3.0).
