RLI launches study on charging infrastructure and charging demand in Berlin
January 16th 2019 | Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI) is investigating the potential for charging infrastructure in the Berlin area, starting in January. On behalf of the Berlin Agency for Electromobility (eMO), RLI and Localiser RLI GmbH will analyze, how future charging demand will be distributed across the city. The consortium will be complemented by partners from administration and housing sectors as well as charging infrastructure providers and network operators.
The aim of the project is to identify factors that are currently hampering the expansion of charging infrastructure in Berlin. In a second step, methods will be proposed that can significantly simplify and shorten the process. First, Berlin-specific scenarios for growing e-mobility will be developed and then a Berlin-wide potential analysis will be carried out to find future hotspots in the city. Of these, those that have a high relevance for traffic in the capital will be examined in detail with regard to effects on the power grid.
One of the results of the project will be an interactive web platform that presents the results of the investigations. It will also enable communication and the exchange of relevant data between the participating institutions.
In addition to RLI and Localiser RLI GmbH, other partners in the project are inno2grid GmbH, Degewo, Howoge, Allego GmbH, ubitricity Gesellschaft für verteilte Energiesysteme mbH, and Stromnetz Berlin GmbH. The project is supported by Berlin Partner für Wirtschaft und Technologie GmbH.
The project receives funding from the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy, und Public Enterprises. Find out more about the project
