Training for hybridization of island energy systems in the Philippines
April 1st 2019 | RLI has released a tool for estimating the optimal share of renewable energy resources in an island energy system and introduced it to energy access planning experts in a workshop in Taguig City, Philippines. The Simplified Planning Tool (SPT) has been developed in context of the EU-ASEP project and in cooperation with the Philippine’s Department of Energy through its Renewable Energy Management Bureau’s Technical Services Management Division (TSMD) and the European Union.
SPT is a Microsoft Excel-based software which allows least-cost planning of hybrid energy systems (diesel generators and renewable sources) and, thus, support the Philippines in meeting their renewable energy targets.
The training workshop for the SPT took place on March 27th 2019 in the Philippine Department of Energy and was open to representatives of off-grid energy businesses as well as experts in the field. Philipp Blechinger and Paul Bertheau from the RLI Research Unit Off-Grid Systems acted as key speakers.
Further information on the workshop can be found on the Department of Energy’s website.
