SpiceEV

SpiceEV – Simulation programm for individual charging events of Electric Vehicles

What does the tool help with?

The SpiceEV tool was developed by researchers at the RLI and helps compare different charging strategies and create load profiles for charging stations at a grid connection point.

Who is the tool suitable for?

SpiceEV is suitable for actors such as fleet operators who are interested in optimizing and analyzing charging strategies for electric vehicles.

How does the tool work?

SpiceEV is a simulation program for individual charging processes of electric vehicles and the application of different charging strategies to electric vehicle driving profiles. In the first step, a scenario is created that includes information about the vehicles and their specific attributes (e.g., battery capacity, charging curve, etc.). In addition, the attributes of the charging stations, such as their maximum power, the connected grid connection, and the corresponding electricity price, are defined. Subsequently, the required loads and commands for the charging stations are determined step by step. This calculation is based on the selected charging strategy. The result is time series and graphs for the load progression at charging stations and the grid connection, as well as the battery capacities of the vehicles. Additionally, costs can be estimated.

What are some examples of its use?

SpiceEV was developed as part of the Netz_eLOG project and has since been used in the SimBA tool.

How is the tool accessible?

The program code is written in the Python programming language and is freely available under the MIT open-source license on the GitHub online service.
