May 25, 2023 | Berlin
Katrin Lammers, researcher in the research unit Off-Grid Systems at RLI, will present the interim results of a current research project at a workshop discussion in the German Bundestag on May 25. In it, she has examined the opportunities and risks of hydrogen partnerships between the focus regions of North and West Africa, Central Asia and Germany. The event is jointly organized by the Office of Technology Assessment of the German Bundestag (TAB) and the Committee on Education, Research and Technology Assessment of the German Bundestag. The appointment is aimed at members of the Bundestag and invited guests.
At this appointment, Katrin will talk about opportunities and risks of potential hydrogen partnerships with different focus regions. The focus of her work will be the perspective of the regions under study on possible partnerships with Germany. In addition, there will be other presentations on topics such as technology, supply chains and sustainability criteria for hydrogen projects.
Green hydrogen from renewable energy is seen as a key technology to achieve climate neutrality. The demand for hydrogen as an energy carrier and raw material for industrial processes is not expected to be met by production in Germany or the EU alone. Germany will therefore be dependent on imports. Suitable production sites abroad can be found in regions with favorable geographic and climatic conditions for photovoltaics and wind energy, many of them in countries of the global south.
