Determining digital charging requirements

How does SimBEV help?

The SimBEV software was developed by RLI scientists and helps to determine the charging requirements of electric vehicles in different regions. It is possible to differentiate between vehicle types, user groups and region types.

Who is the tool suitable for?

SimBEV supports stakeholders such as local authorities, companies and housing associations in quantifying charging requirements.

How does SimBEV work?

The tool is based on a dynamic simulation based on synthetic driving profiles. Users can use it to determine charging requirements, which are distributed across various charging use cases such as charging at home, at work or at the supermarket.

What examples of use are there?

The RLI scientists used SimBEV to calculate charging demand for electric vehicles in Germany up to 2030 for the new study “Charging infrastructure after 2025/2030: Scenarios for the market ramp-up” (only available in german) by the National Centre for Charging Infrastructure. In the Elmobile project, our experts used the tool to determine the potential for discharging electricity from the drive batteries of electric and hybrid cars back into the public power grid (Vehicle to Grid, V2G).

How can SimBEV be used?

The program code is written in the Python programming language and is available in full under the MIT open-source license on the online service GitHub.
