RLI joins the european soil protection network „People4Soil”
Reiner Lemoine Institut (RLI) joins the international soil protection network „People4Soil” in February. People4Soil is a community of European NGOs, research institutions and environmental groups that want soil to be recognized as a common good and a critical resource for mankind.
“We became member of People4Soil because we want to highlight the importance of soil to a sustainable energy system” says Kathrin Goldammer, managing director of Reiner Lemoine Institut. “Soil degradation affects human health, food security and the climate. But at the same time, the way we shape our energy system plays back on soil consumption and degradation. At RLI we work for a 100% renewable energy system – one that protects soils, too.”
As a member of People4Soil, RLI supports the claim to give soil a right within EU legislation. In order to achieve that, People4Soil proposes a number of EU policies and will start a petition promoted by European citizens in mid-2016.
