Social Day: RLI team helps in Hellersdorf
27th June 2016 – The staff of Reiner Lemoine Institut (RLI) has used this year’s field trip to have a social day for the first time. The work force of about 30 people has been “donated” for a whole day to refurbish the rooms and yard of “AJZ Kita”, a self-governing project sponsored by the association “Hellersdorfer Zentrum für Kultur, Demokratie und Politik“ in order to create living space for refugee teenagers.
Lots of work was waiting for the team especially in the yard: Overgrown bushes had to be cut, a playground needed cleaning-up, and the lawn had to be mown on the whole property. In addition, the RLI team built a shed, constructed several dead hedges, laid concrete paving slabs, and prepared an overgrown volleyball field for play. Inside the building, old wallpapers needed to be scraped off the walls. When all work was done, the day ended with a barbeque on the freshly mowed lawn.
The team had a lot of fun spending a day working together and getting to know each other outside the office. Everyone was happy to support a social project and thus to live up to RLI’s standard of promoting sustainability – not only in the field of energy. We will be sure to have another social day next year.
