Second ecoPtG project meeting

September 13th 2016 – All partners of the research project ecoPtG met for their second project meeting at the hydrogen fueling station at Schönefeld Airport on September 13th 2016. They presented first results of their work and discussed the next steps.

For the ecoPtG project, the RLI is developing a modular electrolyzer that produces hydrogen, together with its partners IAV Automotive Engineering, the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research Baden-Württemberg (ZSW), and Wasserelektrolyse Hydrotechnik GmbH (HT). This electrolyzer can be used at hydrogen fueling stations or to store electricity produced from renewable sources in remote (off-grid) regions. At the meeting in Schönefeld, ZSW and HT presented the current state in developing the so-called “cell frame”, which will later hold the electrodes and membranes of the electrolyzer. The partner IAV showed its concept for the electric and hydraulic infrastructure of the whole site.

RLI  is responsible for developing a simulation model for ecoPtG, which can display the whole electrolysis system with all relevant effects in different application scnearios. At the project meeting, we covered the importance of hydrogen technologies for decarbonizing the transport sector in general.
