Hydrogen mobility at Gauss Secondary School in Frankfurt Oder

April 7th 2017 – During a festival at Carl-Friedrich-Gauss Secondary School in Frankfurt Oder, Oliver Arnhold, head of the research field Mobility with Renewable Energy at RLI, gave a presentation on the subject of hydrogen mobility to students at the secondary school.

The Gauss School focuses on STEM subjects. As part of a project of the Physics Department at the school, since 2015 around 20 students from grades 9 through 11 have thus been developing a concept for the use of hydrogen in public and private urban transport. The students are receiving support from the Robert Bosch Stiftung, the Leibniz Institute of Innovations for High Performance Microelectronics as well as from the municipal transport authority, the city’s environmental office, and the municipal utilities in Frankfurt Oder.

In a 90-minute presentation, Oliver introduced the students to the RLI’s research results with regard to future transport free of emissions, which led to a lively discussion in the school auditorium. The students were able to solve some small mathematical problems quickly and correctly. As a highlight of the visit, Oliver was able to present a hydrogen vehicle in cooperation with the H2-Mobility-Initiative including test drives in the passenger seats.

The event at the Carl-Friedrich-Gauss Secondary School was reported on in greater detail in an article in the Märkische Oderzeitung. See article in German.
