Berit Müller at energy system modeling conference in Prague

September 23rd 2016 | Berit Müller, Head of the research field “Transformation of Energy Systems” at RLI, has participated in the conference “Modelling Smart Grids – A Challenge for Stochastics and Optimization” in Prague. Her keynote was titled “Outreach of energy system simulations – from models to reality” and discussed chances and barriers of energy system modeling. Berit also spoke about possibilities, tools, and experiences of the “Open Energy Modelling Initiative” (openmod) and later put the question up for discussion if the global change in energy systems is caused by breakthroughs in engineering, or if the great success of renewable energies and smart technologies is rather a political matter. At the conference, Berit also chaired the round table “Impact of research activities to real energy systems” which focused mainly on the challenges of transdisciplinary research.

The conference was hosted by Charles University and Czech Technical University (ČVUT) September 21st to 23rd 2016 in Prague. Its main goal was to connect researchers and energy providers, traders, and operators. It focused on using modern optimization, statistical, and computational methods which are suitable for the analysis of big data.
