Green-H2Islands: First Project Trip to Thailand
February 23, 2025 | In January 2025, Catherina Cader, Head of the Research Unit Off-Grid Systems and researcher Katrin Lammers embarked on their first project trip to Thailand as part of the Green-H2Islands project. Alongside initial analyses, the focus was on engaging with local stakeholders. The goal of the project is to expand the island’s existing PV-battery-diesel system by integrating a hydrogen component, thereby ensuring a sustainable and resilient energy supply.
To kick off the trip, the project consortium met with representatives such as the Thai Ministry of Energy (MoE) and the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) in Bangkok. During the talks, the project objectives and implementation options were discussed and initial stakeholder surveys were conducted.
Following this, the team traveled to Koh Jik to introduce the project to the local community. A Community Energy Meeting was held to explore the socio-cultural integration of hydrogen technology. At the same time, the consortium conducted an assessment of the existing PV-battery-diesel system, carried out a site inspection, defined preparatory measures for system integration, and mapped the island’s infrastructure.
Finally, the team coordinated the next steps with local stakeholders and prepared the upcoming project trip. This successful first trip lays the foundation for the sustainable transformation of Koh Jik’s energy supply.
