Kathrin Goldammer Energy Transition expert at KAS Conference in Uruguay

October 6th 2016 – RLI Managing Director Kathrin Goldammer has participated in the Second Expert Seminar “Good Governance to energy transition” in Montevideo, Uruguay. At the seminar, experts from ministries, governments, associations, consulting firms, and development banks discussed with researchers about energy transition processes in Germany and Latin America. They compared policies and governance structures in the different countries and checked if good ideas could be transferred. They also spoke about consequences of the Paris Climate Summit and possible policy shifts.

Kathrin was invited by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung and gave a keynote speech about the history of the German Energy Transition. She talked about the origins in the peace movement in the 1970s and 80s as well as the current state of the Energy Transition and upcoming challenges, such as decarbonizing the transport sector. She also shared insights from the current debate about the German climate protection plan.

„I was very impressed with the ambition that many representatives from Latin America showed“, says Kathrin. „All of them want to make a difference and were listening very eagerly to ideas from other countries. I am taking with me a lot of impetus for our work at RLI and would love to see more opportunities for international exchange like this.“

The seminar took place on October 5th 2016 and 6th 2016 and was hosted by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung in context of the regional program Energy Security and Climate Change in Latin America. The two other partners were the South American Institute for Resilience and Sustainability Studies (SARAS) and LatinClima.
