Paul Bertheau reports to EU Energy Initiative in Brussels
October 5th 2016 – Paul Bertheau, research associate in the research field Off-Grid Systems at RLI, has participated in the third EU Energy Initiative Advisory Board meeting in 2016, hosted by the European Commission’s EUEI Secretariat. The regular meeting brings together member states, the EUEI Secretariat, and the EUEI Partnership Dialogue Facility to discuss and coordinate European activities in energy-related development cooperation.
Participants of the meeting discussed a range of issues, including the preparations for the COP22 summit in Marrakesh, approaches for tracking energy access developments in partner countries, and coordination with other energy-related initiatives, such as AREI and SE4ALL.
Prior to the meeting RLI and IASS conducted a joint study titled: The European Portfolio on Energy in International Development Cooperation. The main objectives were to develop means for coordinating the EU’s energy-related development cooperation, create a baseline for tracking the EUs financial contribution to SDG 7, and increase the visibility for the European contributions on energy in development cooperation. Paul Bertheau for RLI and Rainer Quitzow for IASS presented the main outcomes during the meeting and received very positive feedback, as the results were well appreciated and ideas for further projects were developed.
