RLI heads workshop on centralized and decentralized approaches to energy system transformation
The Cluster “Transformation Research” of the Heinrich Böll Foundation met on May 12th at the German Institute for Economic Research (DIW Berlin). In the working group on centralized and decentralized approaches to energy system transformation, which was moderated by Berit Müller (Reiner Lemoine Institut (RLI)), a wide range of issues has been brought up. The participants, mostly PhD students, who study different aspects of transformation, contributed insights from their research. The RLI researchers focused especially on aspects of the Project SmEnOs-tech, focusing on results of the RLI study Vergleich und Optimierung von zentral und dezentral orientierten Ausbaupfaden zu einer Stromversorgung aus Erneuerbaren Energien in Deutschland (Breyer, Müller, Möller et.al. 2013). This study contrasted and analyzed a scenario with nationwide development of renewable enrgies with a central scenario (lots of wind in the North, lots of sun in the South) (see image).
The results of these, as well as those of the parallel working group about the transformation of the transport sector which was moderated by Christian von Hirschhausen (DIW/TU Berlin), will be summarized for the cluster of the Böll-Foundation.
