RLK election program check for the 2025 federal elections: How do the parties position themselves on the future of the energy system?
February 7, 2024 | The federal elections will take place in a few days. To mark the occasion, the Reiner Lemoine Kolleg team has examined the parties’ proposals: How do the parties position themselves on the energy transition?
“The direction of the Federal Government plays a decisive role in the direction of energy policy. This is where the key parameters and goals are set. It is therefore crucial for the continuation of the energy transition which program the parties choose – and which majorities result in the end,” says Martha Hoffmann, Acting Director of the Reiner Lemoine Kolleg.
The results of the methodologically sound analysis have been compiled in a publication. The RLK examined the proposals in the election manifestos of the relevant parties on the basis of eleven evaluation criteria. In addition to criteria such as the conversion of the energy infrastructure, the promotion of renewable energies or the decarbonization of industry and heat supply, the evaluation also includes incentives for modal shift, participation and participation offers as well as a fair and solidary implementation of the energy transition.
Martha Hoffmann: “Our analysis shows that the range of ideas is extremely diverse. They range from constructive proposals to radical turnarounds. This time, voters really do have a choice on how to proceed with the energy transition. Depending on which majorities emerge on February 23 and which party prevails in the coalition negotiations, the transformation of the energy system can either be ended, slowed down or constructively continued. The federal elections are therefore also energy transition elections.”
