WindNODE and ENavi start

January 17th 2017 – RLI has become partner in both of the two largest German research projects on the Energy Transition: WindNODE and ENavi each are sub-projects of large-scale funding initiatives by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).

WindNODE is one of five joint research projects that are funded within the SINTEG Initiative (Showcase Intelligent Energy – Digital Agenda for the Energy Transition) by the BMWi.  It aims at understanding the efficient interplay of renewable energy generation and consumption as well as the energy grids in between. This takes place in northeastern Germany as a model region. RLI is contributing by analyzing capacities and effects of the planned “Verbundkraftwerk Prignitz” (VBKW, Prignitz Power Plant) for the whole system.

ENavi is one of four projects in the initiative „Kopernikus” by BMBF. Its goal is to develop a navigation tool that helps to operate the energy system with its different sectors energy, heat, and mobility. RLI will focus on public domain simulation tools for „Stakeholder Empowerment“.

“We welcome the German Federal Government‘s strong commitment for the Energy Transition“, says Elisa Gaudchau who is managing both projects at RLI. „The scope of these two funding initiatives, which together have a volume of about 320 million Euros within the first three years, shows how great the need for research in this area is. We are proud that RLI is a partner in both projects and are looking forward to working on our share of the tasks“.

On January 26th, a WindNODE kick-off meeting will take place in Berlin in which Berit Müller and Elisa Gaudchau will participate. ENavi has already started off with a meeting on December 19th until 21st 2016, a report of the event can be found here.
