Kassel | With the program “Showcase Intelligent Energy – Digital Agenda for the Energy Transition” (SINTEG) of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), model solutions for the intelligent energy system of the future with high proportions of renewable energy will be developed and demonstrated in five large model regions.

Guido Pleßmann, member of the RLI Research Unit Transformation with Renewable Energy, presents current research of the RLI from the project WindNODE at the annual conference.

Investigations show that there is a high technical and economic potential in the Uckermark area in Germany when using regulated wind energy through flexibility options. In particular, power-to-heat could be used to feed district heating grids in the cities of Prenzlau and Schwedt.

However levies and taxes currently prevent economic exploitation. A fundamental reform of the levies towards cross-sectoral carbon pricing could create the right framework for the use of flexibility options.

More information about the conference can be found on the BMWi website (in German).
