February 24th, 2022
Online seminar
Together with the Association of Municipal Enterprises (VKU), the RLI holds a web seminar on the topic of blockchain. Specifically, the question is what role blockchain technology can play in decentralized electricity markets.
In the context of the energy system transition, in which smaller renewable energy generation plants and their feed-in to the power grid get more important, new approaches are needed for a more flexible energy market. Decentralized energy markets could be an option. The advantage: electricity can be traded between producers and consumers. And with blockchain technology, this could even be done directly, without intermediaries.
Project presentation and discussion
Friederike Reisch, researcher in the RLI research unit Mobility with Renewable Energies, will present the RLI project BEST. In this project, the RLI and its projct partners develop an electricity market bidding system (SMBS) based on a blockchain and as open source software.
In a subsequent panel discussion, RLI Managing Director Kathrin Goldammer will discuss whether and under what conditions decentralized energy markets are a lucrative business model.
Registration for the webinar are open until February 10th.
