Webinar

Editha Kötter, Head of the RLI Research Unit Transformation of Energy Systems, and Jonathan Amme, Researcher in the same Research Unit, will represent the RLI at the webinar “How much area for wind and PV and where? – Presentation of the PV and Wind Area Calculator”. There, together with colleagues from the think tank Agora Energiewende, they present the “PV- and Wind Area Calculator”.

To achieve its climate targets, Germany must use two percent of its surface for wind energy. But conflicts over site selection for new wind turbines and species protection are currently hampering expansion. Agora Energiewende has commissioned Reiner Lemoine Institute in cooperation with the Reiner Lemoine Foundation to develop an online tool, the “PV and Wind Area Calculator”. This web tool shows interactively and comprehensibly when and under which conditions an area in Germany can be considered as a wind potential area or for the installation of photovoltaic systems. Based on the tool, an analysis on how to better reconcile wind energy and species protection is possible.

The Thinktank Agora Energiewende organizes the webinar.
