Verena van Zyl-Bulitta was a researcher in the RLI Research Unit Mobility with Renewable Energy from October until the end of December 2021. She mainly dealt with scenarios within the BEST project and supported the further development of the framework conditions for the electricity market bidding system and mechanisms for flexibilization. In the Research Unit Mobility with Renewable Energy, she was responsible for the theoretical embedding and possible futures and evaluation criteria at BEST.

Verena's professional background includes placements in South Africa at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR, Stellenbosch), the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI, Leipzig), the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS, Potsdam), BTU Cottbus-Senftenberg, and Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union (NABU, Berlin).

In her PhD, she investigates the political economy, as well as energy and flexibility equity aspects of energy systems along the global North-South divide. Verena completed her master’s degree in commerce at the University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) and her bachelor’s in international management at the International University in Germany (Bruchsal).

In addition to her work at RLI, she is involved with the Integrated Assessment Society (TIAS) as well as the Sustainability Transformation Working Group of the German Society for System Dynamics (German: DGSD-AK-NT).

Verena is fluent in English and Afrikaans and proficient in Spanish and French.
