Mai Al-Battat was a guest researcher in the RLI Research Unit Off-Grid Systems from October 2021 until October 2022 as part of her work as a consultant to the multisite research project "Urbanization, Gender, and the Global South: A Transformative Knowledge Network" (GenUrb) through its Ramallah City Research Team.
Her main task at RLI was to support working on the “Global Berlin in the 21st century -Urban Smart Mobility Concepts” research project.
Simultaneously, she also learned German, and worked at the Visual Intelligence and Communication studio.
Mai holds a Bachelor's degree in Architectural Engineering from Birzeit University. Over the past years she was engaged in programs related to heritage conservation and management, as well as serving as a consultant to the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in two of their programs that focused on creating safe spaces and placemaking, she has also been involved in organizing a number of art exhibitions in Ramallah.
