Philipp Kassing worked as a student assistant in the research field Transformation of Energy Systems at RLI from August 2017 to January 2019. He was enrolled in the bachelor program Energy- and Process Technology at TU Berlin with a focus on thermodynamics, heat-transfer, and energy storage. At RLI, he supported the project oemof_heat.
Philipp was writing a final thesis in context of his work, in which he examined the options for optimizing a combined heat and power plant with heat storage and power-to-heat components. For this, he used the modelling framework oemof, which was co-developed at RLI, and analyzed the best combination of technologies for different future scenarios for energy systems with an increased share of fluctuating renewable energy.
