HyExpert H2VL: Feasibility Study for the Hydrogen Economy in Havelland

Projekt H2VL
In this project, the RLI is working with partner organizations on behalf of the Havelland district to prepare a feasibility study for a hydrogen economy in the Havelland. For this purpose, RLI scientists will accompany the hydrogen region Havelland for more than one year in order to identify different local actors along the entire hydrogen value chain and to support them in the implementation of their projects - from production to storage and distribution.

An overall concept for the hydrogen region Havelland

RLI is working on the study together with the partner organizations IAV Ingenieurgesellschaft Auto und Verkehr, Consulting4Drive (C4D) and the Institute for Climate Protection, Energy and Mobility (IKEM). The project team is working with regional stakeholders to investigate the use of renewable energy, H2 production, storage, distribution and use. Many of these actors are already active in the field of hydrogen in different ways at the beginning of the project. The feasibility study aims to bundle their H2 activities in order to exploit synergies and launch joint projects.

HyExpert Region Havelland

Hydrogen is a building block for a sustainable energy supply with renewable energies, which is becoming increasingly important. The Havelland district is one of the winning regions in the second phase of the HyLand competition of the German Federal Ministry of Digital Affairs and Transport (BMDV). As a HyExpert region, the results of this study can become exemplary for other regions. The BMDV is funding this project with 387,807 euros (gross). The development of the Havelland district as a hydrogen region is part of the National Innovation Program Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technology (NIP2). The funding guideline is coordinated by NOW GmbH and implemented by Project Management Jülich (PtJ).

Project period: July 2022 - July 2023

The RLI assumes the following tasks:

  • Coordination of the project
  • Analysis of potentials for hydrogen production
  • Support and consulting of existing hydrogen projects
  • Implementation of stakeholder workshops
  • Analysis of economic implications
