Oskar Seela worked as a student assistant in the Research Unit Off-Grid Systems at RLI from May 2018 to March 2019. He was enrolled in the master's degree program Geographical Environmental Research at FU Berlin. Oskar supported the team by analyzing and visualizing geographic data using the programs R and QGIS.

Oskar supported the PhD research project Inclusive Energy Access Planning and was writing his master thesis in this context with the title “Interconnection of survey data and spatial data in settlement identification and classification”. For this, he used machine learning tools to assess the correlation between different open-source data sets and information derived from household surveys evaluating energy access in rural Nepal.
