February 1st, 2024 | Jakob Gemassmer has been the new Head of the Mobility with Renewable Energy research unit at the Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI) since 1st January 2024. Together with Juliane Arriens, Jakob now forms the management duo for the division.

Jakob is not a stranger to the RLI. He has been a researcher in the research unit that he will now head up since 2018. In this role, he was in charge of the topic of grid integration of electromobility. His research focused on the analysis of flexibility options for electric vehicles and their supply with renewable energies as well as the development and modelling of grid-friendly charging strategies.

Expert for RLI and grid integration of e-mobility

“We are delighted that Jakob is heading up the research area together with Juliane. He understands what makes RLI tick and we appreciate his openness,” says Christine Kühnel, Managing Director of RLI, at the start of the new management team.

Jakob takes over the position of Head of the research unit from Norman Pieniak, who left the RLI at the end of the year.

Around 25 academic staff, students, interns, volunteers and guest researchers work in this research unit. They conduct research in five subject areas: Buses, rail, charging infrastructure, grid integration of electromobility and hydrogen. The focus here is on sustainable drive systems and renewable power generation.
