March 19, 2024 | Four weeks of exchange, four weeks of joint work: three guest researchers from Kazakhstan are visiting the RLI in March. Aigerim Karibay (KMG Engineering), Gulzhiyan Kabdulova and Ayazhan Karabayeva (national company Kazakhstan Gharysh Sapary) are working together with the RLI researchers as part of the “Green HyRECA” project. They are working on the question of how much water is available for the production of hydrogen in Central Asia. Based on a test area in western Kazakhstan, the scientists want to develop a method that can also answer this question for the whole of Central Asia. The exchange is being organised in cooperation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit and the “EcoAral” project.

We asked Aigerim, Gulzhiyan and Ayazhan three questions about their stay at the RLI.

What is your first impression of Reiner Lemoine Institut?

Ayazhan: I have a wonderful experience, everyone is very friendly and helpful.

Gulzhiyan: I like that the institute works with many countries of the world, I also like the organization of work (employees can work remotely), the friendliness of the team

Aigerim: I am excited, I believe that RLI strong on renewable energy and energy transition, for me as water specialist it’s really good opportunity to do research and be strong also on green energy as a nexus approach.

What do you work on while you stay at RLI?

Gulzhiyan: We are exploring the possibility of using Kazakhstan’s water resources for hydrogen production

Ayazhan: I’m working on implementing a project about hydrogen.

Aigerim: I’m working on development of Atlas of water resources for green hydrogen production in Kazakhstan.

What are your goals for your time at RLI?

Aigerim: To develop the Atlas with focus on availability of water to green hydrogen, to gain experience on GIS and think tank.

Guzhiyan: We plan to create an atlas of water resources, including surface and groundwater. We also study the experience of foreign countries on the use of water resources for hydrogen production from literary sources.

Ayazhan: Achieve my goals, improve my knowledge, I want to do my job well.
