Presentation at conference “Thailand – Energy Efficiency in the Infrastructure”

22nd June 2016 – Marcel Sax, student assistant at RLI, has presented his work on hydrogen storage systems at the conference “Thailand – Energy Efficiency in the Infrastructure” on June 21st in Stuttgart. In his presentation “Enabling renewable energy off-grid systems through hydrogen storage – A global analysis”, he illustrated potential usages of modular electrolyzers in off-grid regions as a tool to promote renewable energy.

At RLI, Marcel supports the team working on the project „ecoPtG“, which aims at developing a low-cost modular electrolyzer. In addition, off-grid locations are identified where the usage of electrolyzers as part of a hydrogen storage system could be useful to promote renewable energy. Marcel has focused on the influence of climate and infrastructure factors. His results show that electrolyzers are in fact already promoting renewable energy at select locations, even though they are competing against other methods of power generation and storage.

The conference was held in context of the Energy Solutions Initiative by the German Federal  Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy.
