Philipp Diesing, doctoral student at the RLS Graduate School, will give a presentation on his doctoral thesis at the Sustainability Colloquium at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg.
His presentation is entitled “Industrial basic material production in the context of 100% renewable energy systems”. In his doctoral thesis, Philipp is investigating technologies that enable the production of industrial raw materials such as steel, cement or basic chemicals in a 100% renewable energy system. Using methods such as literature reviews, case studies and multi-criteria decision analyses, he focuses in particular on the much-discussed approaches of using green hydrogen and direct electrification in various applications. His qualitative results are embedded in a modeling of the German energy system with a focus on the industrial sector and thus also enable quantitative conclusions to be drawn
The sustainability colloquium takes place every first Thursday of the month as part of the university’s “Green Salon”. The Grüner Salon is an interdisciplinary group of young OVGU researchers who are invited to exchange ideas and jointly set impulses for sustainability.
