12.8. | Election program check for the state election at BUND Saxony

August 12 | Online

On the occasion of the state elections in Thuringia, Saxony and Brandenburg, the team of the RLS Graduate School looked at the election programs in the federal states to answer the question: “Which programs will advance the energy transition?”. They presented the results of their detailed analysis at an online event organized by BUND Saxony.

The scientists analyzed the proposals of the parties at state level on the basis of eleven energy policy evaluation criteria. In addition to criteria such as the conversion of the energy infrastructure, subsidies for renewable energies or the decarbonization of industry and heat supply, these also include incentives for modal shift, participation and participation offers, as well as a fair and solidary implementation of the energy transition.

One of the speakers, Nubius Brandner, is doing his doctorate in collaboration with the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and is working on the resilience of power grids in the face of growing electricity demand and the increasing threat of extreme weather events. He uses energy system models from theoretical physics to identify weak points in the power grid and investigate measures for stabilization.

The second speaker, Josephine Semb, is doing her doctorate on the democratization of the heating transition, following on from the Fossil Exit Research Group. She is investigating various forms of public participation and their impact on acceptance. The aim is to shed light on how bottom-up-driven transformations can accelerate the energy system transition.
