March 2, 2023 | The project “National Research Data Infrastructure for Interdisciplinary Energy Systems Research” (NFDI4Energy) was officially launched on March 1. The Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI) is part of the consortium and participated with two researchers in the kick-off workshop at the University of Oldenburg on February 22.

In the new project, RLI scientists and partner organizations are building an infrastructure for research data from energy system analysis. These structures will support various scientific workflows – from data collection to knowledge transfer. The project serves an optimal knowledge transfer and helps to make research results, data or artifacts reproducible and transparent for the scientific community.

“At NFDI4Energy, we are working to develop an effective infrastructure in the field of energy systems research. For example, we provide support in the acquisition of data, its integration into research software, and its publication. We contribute our many years of experience at RLI regarding the development of open tools, IT infrastructures and their application for digitized research. This is how we improve open access to research results,” says Ludwig Hülk, researcher in the unit Transformation of Energy Systems, who is leading the project at RLI.

Together with Christian Hofmann, research associate from the same area at RLI, Ludwig traveled to Oldenburg for the project launch. During the event, they discussed the project’s tasks and goals and details for the first working period together with project partners from all over Germany. The project is scheduled to end in February 2028.
