June 12th – 28th, 2018 | Trieste

The annual Summer School on Modeling Tools for Sustainable Development will be held in Trieste this year. The summer school addresses government officials and researchers from Africa, Asia, and Latin America. In various training sessions, they can deepen their knowledge in the field of energy system modeling, with the aim of incorporating these insights into sustainable policy decisions.

The program is divided into two sections: the first starts on June 12th and ends on the 27th. The focus is on methodology for policy development for the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set out in the 2030 Agenda. Catherina Cader, researcher in the RLI Research Field Off-Grid Systems , organizes a workshop on “Off-grid site identification in Tanzania – project experience in prioritization and web-visualization of villages”, Ludwig Hülk will contribute with a webinar on” Open Data Management and Additional Transparency Tools for Energy System Analyses”.

The second section will take place from June 28th to 29th, focusing on high-level meetings and strategic discourse. As part of this event, Berit Müller , Head of the RLI Research Area Transformation of Energy Systems, will give a talk on “Benefits of open-source, transparency, and open peer review”.
